Notification by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs

regarding the procedure by which Chinese may divest

themselves of Chinese nationality.

June 1927.

If a Chinese already possesses foreign nationality

either by birth abroad or through his father having

been naturalised and has not obtained the consent of

this Government to abandon his allegiance to the Chinese

Republic, then hereafter if he wishes to become the

citizen of a foreign country he must within six months

of the issue of this proclamation in accordance with

clause 8 of the detailed regulations of the revised

Nationality Law so petition the local authorities, or,

if he is an emigrant abroad, the local Chinese Consul,

or should there be no Consul, the District Magistrate

of his birth place, to report the matter to the Pro-

vincial Government and to this Ministry for necessary

action. Otherwise he will still be recognised as a

Chinese citizen. Should he (in the latter case) become

involved in law suits in Chinese territory he will be

subject to the jurisdiction of the Chinese Courts, and

should he suffer injury abroad he will receive the

protection of the Chinese Government.
